(March 6, 2005) - U.S. Rep. Bob Inglis (R-SC) and Rep. Charles Taylor (R-NC) will explore innovative technology designed to increase fuel efficiency and transform coal into a relatively clean source of energy for power generation at the Greenville GE Energy Plant and its Gas Turbine Center of Excellence 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 7.
“America needs to be investing in research and innovation if we are going to create the jobs of tomorrow and be globally competitive,” Inglis said. “Having a key company like GE involved in developing energy and environmental solutions right here in Greenville is a terrific asset for the district.”
Inglis is chairman of the House Science Committee’s Subcommittee on Research and has been preparing for hearings on the country’s research focus. Taylor is the chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment and related Agencies.
The Congressmen will tour the GE Energy manufacturing plant, the world’s largest gas turbine manufacturing plant, and will preview GE’s clean coal and fuel cell technology in which Greenville is playing an integral role.
Along with staff members from other congressional offices, the group will also tour GE’s $50 million gas turbine technology laboratory.
